(a) Payment of up to 50 percent of the maintenance costs of privately owned historic sites or monuments recommended by the Historic Site Advisory Committee and designated by the governor as an Alaska Landmark may be made by the state, provided the owner agrees to keep the facility available to the public, and further conditioned upon continued operation and maintenance in accord with these regulations and in a manner acceptable to the director. Application for support of privately owned state monuments or historic sites shall be made on a form provided by the director.
(b) Payment of any grant authorized under this section shall be on a reimbursable basis subject to legislative appropriation. The grantee shall be required to itemize operation and maintenance expenses for the period covered by the grant as specified in the grant agreement.
