Title 20 . Miscellaneous Boards and Commissions
Chapter 19 . Mental Health Trust Authority
Section 10. Purpose of WWAMI Program

20 AAC 19.010. Purpose of WWAMI Program

The Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, (WWAMI) program provides access to medical education not otherwise available to qualifying Alaskans. Residents of Alaska compete only with other Alaska residents for the positions reserved at the University of Washington School of Medicine through Alaska's participation in the WWAMI program. Alaska participates in the WWAMI program to address state health care needs by training physicians and allied health professionals, advancing knowledge, and assuming leadership in the fields of biomedical sciences and academic medicine. For the Alaska residents who participate in the WWAMI program, Alaska pays the educational costs of the program that are not covered by tuition. A participant who does not return to the state and become employed in the medical field for which the support was provided under this chapter must repay the state a portion of the costs in the amount of the tuition differential between a resident and nonresident University of Washington School of Medicine student.
