Section 500. Dental hygienist examination

12 AAC 28.500. Dental hygienist examination

(a) Before an applicant for a license to practice as a dental hygienist in Alaska may take the written and clinical examination, the applicant must hold a certificate from the American Dental Association Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations, verifying that the applicant has passed the written examination given by the commission.

(b) In addition to the written examination specified in (a) of this section, the written and clinical examination under AS 08.32.060 will be

(1) a dental hygiene examination conducted by the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB) or the Central Regional Dental Testing Service, Inc. (CRDTS), unless the board decides to conduct its own examination; and

(2) the written Alaska jurisprudence examination conducted by the board.

(c) To pass the examination required in (b)(1) of this section, an applicant must achieve a score of at least 75 percent.

(d) For purposes of licensure under AS 08.32 and this chapter, the results of a dental hygiene examination conducted by the Western Regional Examining Board or the Central Regional Dental Testing Service, Inc., are valid for five years after the date on which the examination was taken.
