(a) A mechanical contractor, as defined in AS 08.18.171 , is registered under AS 08.18.028 and is subject to that section's requirement regarding mechanical administrator licensure. Unless specifically exempted under AS 08.40.390 , a mechanical contractor must be registered as, or employ, a mechanical administrator licensed under AS 08.40. The mechanical contractor may only submit bids for, or work on, projects for which the contractor has a licensed mechanical administrator.
(b) A mechanical contractor may not function as a general contractor unless registered as a general contractor under AS 08.18, except that a mechanical contractor may contract with
(1) another licensed mechanical contractor; and
(2) an electrical contractor who performs electrical work directly related to the mechanical installation for which the prime mechanical contractor is responsible.
