(a) Subject to AS 47.05, AS 47.07, and this chapter, the division will reimburse an enrolled provider of nutrition services provided to a Medicaid-eligible women who is
(1) pregnant;
(2) between 10 and 55 years of age; and
(3) at high risk nutritionally.
(b) The criteria for determining if a pregnant woman is at high risk nutritionally includes
(1) chronic or metabolic diseases;
(2) any disease or condition that requires a prescribed therapeutic diet;
(3) underweight before conception;
(4) inadequate or excessive weight gain during pregnancy;
(5) a history of substance abuse;
(6) a history of low birth weight infants;
(7) multiple fetuses;
(8) anemia;
(9) intrauterine growth retardation; or
(10) a maternal age of 15 or less.
(c) Except as provided in (d) of this section, the provider qualifications, general limitations on services that may be reimbursed, and the rates of reimbursement that apply to nutrition services for pregnant women are specified in 7 AAC 43.454.
(d) Nutrition services for a pregnant woman reimbursed under this section must be referred
(1) by a physician, advanced nurse practitioner, or other licensed health care practitioner who may order those services as within the scope of the practitioner's license; or
(2) by a registered dietitian employed by a hospital or Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.
