Section 810. Laboratory safety program

7 AAC 12.810. Laboratory safety program

(a) A facility which provides laboratory services must establish in writing and implement a safety program.

(b) A safety program established under (a) of this section must include

(1) the use of a biological safety cabinet of the class and type which is appropriate in areas where laboratory personnel handle microorganisms that are considered by medical science to be highly infectious;

(2) the use of fume hoods with adequate venting in areas where noxious chemicals are used;

(3) reasonable access to fire blankets in cytology, histology, and toxiology areas of the laboratory;

(4) the use of eye wash equipment; and

(5) a requirement that all acids and alkalis be stored at or near floor level.

(c) In this section,"biological safety cabinet of the class and type which is appropriate" means a cabinet in which microorganisms can be safely handled and which conforms to the current printed guidelines of the Center for Disease Control.
