Section 442. Risk management

7 AAC 12.442. Risk management

(a) A birth center must have a risk management program which includes

(1) a preventive maintenance program for physical plant and equipment which covers maintenance of the equipment used in the care, diagnosis, and treatment of clients, and assures proper functioning of the electrical and plumbing systems and all of their parts;

(2) a procedure to investigate, analyze, and respond to client grievances which relate to client care;

(3) an orientation and in-service program for each employee in each service area, which includes training in

(A) policies and procedures for that service;

(B) the employee's job responsibilities and the skills necessary to meet those responsibilities;

(C) safety, fire, and disaster plans; and

(D) principles and techniques of infection control; and

(4) current written policies and procedures, dated and approved by the governing body, which cover medical emergencies, client-teaching, and discharge planning.

(b) In this section, "client-teaching" means instruction of a client in diet, medication, exercise, and other therapeutic measures to be taken by the client upon discharge.
