AS 28.22.141. Other Requirements of Policy.
- (a) A policy is not effective under AS 28.22.101
unless it is issued by an insurance company or surety company authorized to do business in this state, except as
provided in (b) of this section.
- (b) A policy is not effective under AS 28.22.101
with respect to a vehicle not registered in the state or a vehicle that was registered in another jurisdiction on the
effective date of the policy or the most recent renewal of it, unless the insurance or surety company issuing the
policy is authorized to do business in the state, or if the company is not authorized to do business in the state,
unless it executes a power of attorney authorizing the director of the division of insurance to accept service of
process on its behalf in an action upon the policy arising out of the accident.
- (c) The requirements for a motor vehicle liability policy may be fulfilled by the policies of one or more insurance
carriers that together meet the requirements.
- (d) A binder issued pending the issuance of a motor vehicle liability policy fulfills the requirements for a policy.
